June Book Review

It's been a while, but I'm (hopefully) back! School is finally out for the year and I can dedicate more time to knocking off books off my TBR list.....and let's be honest, adding more books to it as well. I read three books and a novella this month and truthfully, the novella was probably my favorite. Here's to more and better reads during the rest of the summer! First up for the month was " The Paris Apartment " by Lucy Foley. I had heard great things about this author, but I think I started out with the wrong book. Jess, the main character, needs a fresh start and decides to go stay with her half brother but when she arrives, he's MIA. She knows something is wrong and sets out to figure out what has happened to him. I found the book to be a little hard to follow and had too many characters and points of view. Next up was " East Coast Girls " by Kerry Kletter. After a dozen years, four childhood friends meet up for one last summer before their...

July Book Review

I thought June was a good month for books, but somehow July was even better! This month saw seven books including a memoir, a YA series, some historical fiction, a beach read and suspense novel. Grab a glass of iced tea and open up your Goodreads account so you can add some of these books to your TBR list! My first read of the month was Over the Top  by Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye.  I was at the library looking for a different book when I saw this one and picked it up on a whim. I love the show and listened to Tan France's audiobook last year so I was excited to learn more about JVN and get some inside scoop on the show. That being said, I wasn't that impressed with the book. It mostly talks about his wild days and I do appreciate his vulnerability speaking out about mental health issues and how left untreated, it wasn't healthy -- or safe. I think I just went into the book with different expectations but that being said, I'm glad I read it. Next up was Not a Happ...

June Book Review

Oh June, you were so so good to me this month when it came to reading. I was able to read seven books and loved almost all of them! I had a nice mix of books this month with two inspired by real events, three beach reads, one chick lit and one suspense/thriller. I started the month off strong with Keeping Lucy . I picked this book up on a whim while at a bag day of a used book sale. Those days always get me. As many books as you can fit in a paper bag for $5-10?!? Yes please!! This book is set in the early 1970s and is based on the story of a woman who is forced to give her daughter up because she has special needs and that would reflect poorly on her family. The daughter is sent to a "special school" and they have no contact with her. When articles are released in the paper saying how horrible the school is, the mother kidnaps her own daughter to save her. While the story is fiction, it was inspired by true events about homes that were labeled as schools for children with ...
